Need To Reconnect? Try A Playful Love-Letter!

Last updated on 11/02/2010

My blog is about teeny tiny pieces that make this life whole. Sometimes I simply write about bits that make life more tolerable.  Sometimes I write about the morsels that make life delicious. This post is a Godiva Dark Chocolate drop.

I’ll keep the intro short and sweet by saying that my husband has been working out of town most of the summer.  It hasn’t been easy, and there have been times when we’ve fallen, head-first, out of our comfort zones.  Getting back on track is sweet, though, and he’ll be back in Raleigh, full-time, very soon. We’ve done alot of driving to visit one-another, alot of texting, and alot of waiting for September.

Well, September is almost here, and a playful love-letter is an awesome pick-me-up, and a great way to reconnect after a busy week.  So, in honor of my husband’s birthday today, and of our upcoming 5th Anniversary, and in anticipation of his returning home for good, I’m sending him a love letter.  It’s fun with a little bit of intrigue, written as-if we were just getting to know each other, but not too sappy … it’s reader-friendly.

Maybe it has been a while since you’ve written a love letter, so I thought I’d share.  Of-course I’m hoping you’ll realize that there’s someone waiting for a love letter from you, and you’ll write one, too.

Dear SF,

Well, it has been quite an interesting few months, hasn’t it?  We’ve really learned alot about each other.  I think you’re a pretty amazing person, and I’m hoping we’ll be able to spend more time together soon.  I must say that the summer started out much like a fairy tale, but I’m growing a bit weary of the texting, and voicemailing, so I think it’s time for us to finally meet, face to face.

Let’s meet in the mountains tonight, just after sunset.  How about at 9:00 at the drum circle … I think you know the one I’m talking about.  I’ll be the one wearing a hippie skirt, and as long as nobody’s wearing combat boots, I’ll probably be barefooted, as well.  There’s nothing like the feel of drum vibrations coursing through the air and penetrating your skin, with everyone dancing, bumping, laughing, swaying under the moon.  Very sensual, very beautiful!

After we’re all danced out, maybe we’ll share some chocolate peanut butter ice cream, then wander off into the night to find a sweet little lemon-pie cottage somewhere and settle in for a day or two.

This may sound corny, but I really think I could spend the rest of my life with you.  We’ve dreamed of far-away places, and I believe we’ll make some amazing adventures together.

So, write back, and let me know whether you’ll meet me tonight at 9, and remember … don’t go to Paris without me, okay?

J

Well, of-course this letter is chock-full of little inside sentiments, but you get the idea.  I’m wishing I could see the smile on his face as he reads this.

Now then, you go ahead and think of someone you’d like to write a love letter to.  Really, I’ll wait …..

There now, go for it ~ and have fun!

As for me, I’ll be headed for the mountains this evening … to the drum circle, under the moon, at 9 pm.

…take good care!

Thanks to Brooke for the photo.

    • Thanks Katie …
I’m grateful that we’ve had a birthday, and now an anniversary to celebrate during these last weeks of waiting for Sweet Frank (SF) to come home. We did enjoy chocolate peanut butter ice cream over the weekend, so perhaps we’ll find some Godiva for the anniversary.
      I’m glad you stopped by,
      Take good care,
      Jane

  2. Jane, nice that you shares this letter. I´m a big fan of letters as presents. Two weeks ago I wrote one to my father, telling him a bit about my life and thanking him for the opportunities he gave me.

    • Hi Marilia,
I’m glad you wrote to your father. It’s important to keep in touch, and I believe our parents’ generation really appreciates a hand-written note.

I enjoy writing letters also. I recently challenged myself to write 30 Notes in 30 Days, which you can find in my blog posts. It was a good project, but not something I would do very often. Writing notes when I’m feeling really inspired is the best, and the most rewarding.

Take good care, and congratulations again on launching your blog today!

Of course I’ll meet you tonight at 9. I love you more and more and could never go to Paris without you!

P.S. You’ll be the one in the hippie skirt? Ok… I’ll be the one with the drum!

    • Thanks for meeting me. As I looked around the drum circle trying to find you, I was really grateful that you’re so nice and tall … and there you were, across the crowded mass of happy people!

Thanks for the ice cream, and for walking in the rain, for not going to Paris without me, and for a great weekend!
      Love you!

    • Thanks, Tess…
We’re a very close couple, so the distance this summer has been pretty intense. I’ve been pretty intentional about bridging the gaps … what better way to stay connected than to add a bit of romance. By the way, we did have a great weekend!
Thanks for stopping by, and take good care!

  4. Hello Jane,

I love the style and tone of your blog and this post has inspired me to write to my OH later!

I’ll look forward to reading more. I think we have an attitude to life in common!

  5. Fantastic Jane, you still dance with romance. Your teeny tiny pieces here are huge foundations stones of life. I we let love slide then there’s not much left. Investing your time and heart to keep comitting time, energy and love will more than repay itself again and again. The little things in truth are the big things and one simple but heartfelt letter is the smallest but hugest message that you care more than words can say. I hope you and your SF had a wonderful reunion not just in a your meeting but in the love you continue to show for each other year after year. Bless you for sharing true love in action.
