Muddy Rivers and Ripe Tomatoes

tomatoes and basil medium

Storms in the summer night and morning rains keep our rivers full.  Rivers clouded with currents that stir the rocky floor beneath.

Tomatoes are full and ripe, and we bought a box of ‘uglies’ for a steal from our favorite tomato farmer at the market … and a huge batch of basil for almost nothing.

Summer … is lovely … and also it’s as lovely as we allow it to be.

Our afternoon walk, on the banks of the Eno ~ under the cool dripping trees … we paused, and he took my hand, and we whispered, waited in a silence absent of any human noise, for the distance calls of birds which we did not know.  We stood, hand in hand, on the bank of the Eno, together.  We giggled quietly.  And I remembered that this life, and each moment I have, is a gift.  That sometimes we are given precious souls … sometimes right under our wing, and sometimes just a heartbeat away.  And no matter where they are … we must hold them so close, and cherish and care for them.  Giving and receiving.

And the full, muddy river silently drifted by.  And I have so much basil that I can scatter it generously on our supper tomatoes.

Take special good care ~ and hold tender gratitude for all precious souls in your care,
